About wagner

Headquartered in Minnesota, with permanent operations in North Dakota, Texas, and Colorado, Wagner’s service area and capabilities have grown far and wide since 1951.

Constructors of Integrity for 70+ Years

Wagner was born out of the big timber country of northern Minnesota, where making a living meant doing hard things the right way. Our origins in logging and forestry taught us that strong logistics beat aimless effort in the race to deliver.

Through seventy years in business and three generations of family ownership, we’ve evolved to deliver the scale, speed, and sophistication of tomorrow’s most ambitious builds.

As we approach our century milestone, we plan to carry forward the Wagner Way of building quality projects with integrity.

70+ Years of Generational Growth

Hitting the road
1941

Clifford Wagner begins a trucking venture in northern Minnesota, laying the groundwork for a family business built by doing hard things the right way.

second-gen growth
1970’s

Clifford’s son, Dennis Wagner, expands into forestry and civil construction, rebuilding the City of Warroad and later Roseau, which earns the company a strong municipal reputation.

A premier partnership
1980’s

The team supports major expansions for Marvin Windows, leading to continued work for Marvin Home Center, Northern Minnesota’s premier home improvement store.

environmental innovation
early 1990’s

The company is one of the first to install lined lagoons with erosion controls. Wagner expands into environmental cleanup and restoration, then heads the Boise Paper Mill Expansion (the largest private construction project in MN at the time).

reconstructing community
mid-to-late 1990’s

Wagner broadens its services to include landfill capping, hazardous waste removal, and soil contamination cleanup. The company plays a key role in reconstructing downtown Grand Forks, ND following the 1996 Red River Flood.

wagner goes national
Early 2000’s

Operations expand nationwide with the opening of two new offices in AZ and ND, and Wagner wins the Public Works Project of the Year by the American Public Works Association in 2001.

Third-gen Energy expansion
2014 - present

Kalan Wagner carries the company into its third generation of family leadership. Wagner establishes its own rock quarries and ready‐mix locations throughout MN, and enters the renewable sector nationwide.

Deadlines Don’t Excuse Safety

It’s not easy to pause when the pressure is on, but we refuse to test our luck. We’ve been at this for over 70 years, but we don’t work on autopilot. Safety isn’t a box to check, but part of planning.

Bold Leading the Bold

The Wagner name is a constant, but our leaders aren’t afraid of change. Bold decision-making supports ambitious builds, and we are constructing a culture that inspires it from the top down.

Earned, Not Given

Wagner works hard for results, not recognition. But we are deeply humbled by the honors we’ve received.
