Water Treatment Plant Flood Hazard Mitigation Project

Minot, ND

The scope of the project was to construct a reinforced concrete floodwall and reroute underground utilities around the existing water treatment plant to protect the plant from flood conditions. Work included constructing 7,000 CY of cast in place concrete, storm water lift station, new intake structure, installation of 3,700 LF of storm sewer pipe ranging from 15" to 60", 85,000 CY of structural and mass excavation, installing 3,400 LF of new large diameter ductile iron water mains ranging from 12" to 30", and connections to an existing 54" Fiberglass Reinforced Pipeline. Challenges consisted of working next to the Mouse River, with a high water table that required dewatering, excavations 30' deep, maintaining water supply to the plant while installing new intake and treated water lines.
