The scope of the project was to produce a complete site grading package for a 600,000-metric ton wood pellet plant that required a double loop railroad track and large wood yard for its operations. Work included 202 acres of clearing and grubbing, erosion control and delineating wetlands, 400,000 yards of mass grading, 8,000 LF of water lines, 1,500 LF of sanitary sewer, 800 LF of storm sewer, 125,000 SY of cement soil stabilization, 165,000 tons of aggregate base, 30,000 CY of detailed structure excavation and backfill, 17,561 LF of railroad track, 2 -9' x 12' box culverts, and 100 acres of seeding and restoration including riprap. Challenges consisted of an accelerated schedule, existing soils having a high plasticity, higher than average precipitation, multiple trades working in same workareas, and limited qualified local workforce availability.
